Congratulations on your new furry family member! Bringing a new puppy home is an exciting and joyous experience, but it can also be a little overwhelming. So, what should you expect on day one with your new pup?
First things first – make sure you have everything you need. You'll want to have food and water bowls, high-quality puppy food, a comfortable bed or crate, and toys on hand. You'll also want to puppy-proof your home by removing any hazardous items and blocking off areas where your puppy shouldn't go.
Once you're prepared, it's time to introduce your puppy to their new home. Remember, this is a big adjustment for them, so try to make the transition as smooth as possible. Let them explore their new surroundings at their own pace, and supervise them closely to make sure they don't get into anything they shouldn't.
During the first day, it's important to establish routines and rules. Decide where your puppy will sleep, eat, and go potty, and stick to those routines consistently. Start potty training right away by taking your puppy outside frequently, and rewarding them when they go in the appropriate spot. Check out our latest YouTube video on the breakdown to Puppy Potty Training below.
You'll also want to start building a bond with your new pup. Spend time playing with them, cuddling them, and giving them plenty of attention and affection. This will help them feel secure and loved in their new home.
Finally, be patient and understanding. Your puppy is going through a lot of changes and may be a little scared or overwhelmed at first. It will take time for them to adjust and feel comfortable in their new surroundings. But with love, patience, and consistency, you and your new pup will soon settle into a happy and loving routine together.
